CPS Moves to Support A-GPS

CPS (Cambridge Positioning Systems), a location technology provider, today announced a partnership with SiRF Technology, a provider of GPS-enabled silicon and software location platforms, to explore development of enhanced mobile location technologies that will deliver faster Time to First fix positions and ultimately higher-accuracy performance for location-aware devices. The agreement calls for both organizations to work jointly to assess feasibility of a hybrid solution that combines the network-based Matrix portfolio offered by CPS, along with SiRF's satellite-based Multimode Aided-GPS (A-GPS) technology.

The study is intended to assess solutions that improve location availability in asynchronous networks such as Global System for Mobile communication (GSM). By utilizing location information from both satellites and wireless networks, the combined solution under consideration would ensure that users experience high accuracy - as well as high yield and fast location fixes - wherever they may be.

A hybrid approach, such as we are exploring, would provide mobile subscribers with the confidence of using the most accurate location-based technologies available, anywhere."
