Portuguese Network Orders Download Manager

Openwave Systems says that Portugal's TMN has selected it's Download Manager solution to enable the downloading of Java and multimedia content via the brand new Inove portal. This solution assists TMN Portugal in managing and delivering a new set of personalized 2.5G and future 3G multimedia services and applications to enhance its customers' mobile experience. Openwave partnered with Portugal Telecom's R&D company, PT Inovacao, to provide the Portuguese operator with value-added services for its mobile portal Inove.

PT Inovacao's role has been to act as an application service provider and host the platform as well as oversee integration, management and maintenance of the portal on an ongoing basis. Both companies have a history of working towards similar implementations, most recently on a messaging partnership on the Iberian peninsula.

"The TMN ODM deal is a significant milestone for us in Southern Europe and we are pleased to be working with a leading market player in this area," said David Hose, vice president and general manager, infrastructure group for Openwave. "Our emphasis at Openwave has always been on driving revenue to the European operators by improving the end-user experience. Through our reliable and flexible ODM solutions, Portuguese mobile users are really beginning to see the benefits of value-added services such as games, ring tones and images by paying for these services time and time again."

"We chose to work with Openwave on this deal since the combination of its commitment to open standards and the scalability and flexibility of its ODM solution provides PT Inovacao with a future-proof system," said Pedro Salvado, head of mobile platforms and services at PT Inovacao.

The partnership between PT Inovacao and Openwave represents the fastest implementation of its type with less than one month from the deal being signed to the technology being implemented, tested and deployed. The Portugal Telecom TMN portal went live on June 23rd, 2003 across Portugal."
