Cingular Orders Location Based Software
Agilent Technologies says that Cingular Wireless has selected its acceSS7 Location solution for Abis monitoring. Cingular plans to use the solution to comply with the requirements of Phase II of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E-911 mandate, which requires service providers to provide location information for wireless 911 callers to public emergency service agencies.
Cingular is a long-time user of both Agilent acceSS7 surveillance and troubleshooting applications and Agilent OSS Fault Manager for its TDMA and GSM networks. Cingular will use acceSS7 Location Abis monitors to observe its GSM radio access network, providing the required RF channel information to enable the U-TDOA (uplink time difference of arrival) location network. This approach allows U-TDOA to work across all GSM radio access network vendors' infrastructure utilizing all types of handsets to allow emergency personnel to direct services to 911 callers.
"This solution represents how Agilent's expertise in OSS and network monitoring helps wireless service providers meet their business objectives and comply with a wide range of industry and regulatory demands," said Tom Walls, vice-president and general manager of Agilent's Telecommunications Systems Division."
