Vodafone Offers Video Streaming in Germany

Siemens Mobile, acting as general contractor, has integrated a complete solution for media streaming into the GPRS network of Vodafone D2. Based on Siemens' m.traction Streaming Mediator and RealNetworks' Helix Mobile product suite, the solution enables D2 to offer their customers the ability to watch video clips on their mobile phone. Content, such as daily news, trailers for new movies or short reports from the soccer league, can be called up via Vodafone live!, Vodafone D2's mobile phone media portal.

The advantage with this approach is that the audio or video is viewable without any major time delay and can be streamed live.

"The new video services support the attractiveness of our Vodafone live! portal", explained Dirk Hemmerden, head for Content Services at Vodafone D2. "We thus can offer up-to-date news clips from the fields of economics, politics, and sport, as well as cinema trailers of the latest movies. Our cooperation with various content partners guarantees that our customers will find up-to-date and high-quality content in the portal."

"As the global leader in digital media delivery, RealNetworks is pleased to be working with Siemens and Vodafone D2 to bring consumers their media when and where they want audio and video on their mobile devices", said Ian Freed, VP of Mobile. "Our Helix Mobile product suite provides a tested solution for delivering both RealAudio
