Vodafone Develops SMS Spam Filter

The Netherlands arm of Vodafone has introduced an SMS Spam filter, which will temporarily deny access to all unidentified providers of SMS services.

Thanks to the SPAM filter in Vodafone's mobile network it is no longer possible for new, often clandestine parties to send volume SMS messages containing unwanted advertising or misleading messages to Vodafone customers. These messages often invite customers to dial 0900/0906 premium numbers and if the customer responds to the request then they can incur costs they do not expect.

The SMS SPAM filter remains active for a new party until its identity is known and the provider has indicated it will comply with the code of conduct Vodafone has for third parties that use Vodafone's mobile network. "
