Canadian Network to Show off Intrinsically-safe Mobile Phone

Canada's TELUS Mobility says that it demonstrate the Motorola r750plus, the only Intrinsically Safe Mike phone available on the market, at GoExpo: Gas and Oil Exposition & Canadian International Petroleum Conference 2003 in Calgary. The Motorola r750plus operates on TELUS Mobility's all-in-one Mike network and is designed with a tough, rubberized outer shell. It integrates a digital PCS phone with Mike's Direct Connect two-way radio, as well as a Web browser, data capabilities and messaging services, in a single durable handset.

Equipped with the extra protection needed in environments where it will encounter extraordinary shock and vibration, the r750plus combines the instant- contact capabilities of TELUS Mobility's Mike network with the sturdiness of an industrial handset.

"We are very pleased with TELUS Mobility's r750plus units, which have enabled us to stay in constant contact with our field workers through a variety of communications options," said Dale Schmidt, Branch Manager, Stauffer Service Centre of Newalta, a Calgary-based industrial waste management company. "The units are highly durable and provide us with the level of safety we require in the many hazardous environments in which we operate."

Adds John MacDonald, TELUS Mobility's vice president, Alberta: "The oil and gas industry has many specialized requirements, one of which includes the need for wireless devices that can withstand severe conditions while operating in volatile environments. TELUS Mobility's extensive line of exclusive wireless devices means we are uniquely able to ensure our clients' complete mobility needs are met."

In addition to the Intrinsically Safe model, the Motorola r750plus is available in a One Watt configuration, providing increased power and better in- building performance in a ruggedized unit."
