Mobile Video Comes to Spanish GSM Network
The Barcelona, Spain based Portalmix has selected helloNetwork's mobile streaming media technology to launch its first mobile video-based applications over Telefonica Moviless GSM network. Beginning this month, Portalmix will deploy a set of video-enabled applications, starting with "Video Descargas" which will be available for download at TME's MoviStar e-mocion site and are priced at one euro per clip. Telefonica Moviles is the first operator to offer video services in Spanish market.
"Portalmix is well positioned thanks to its strong relationship with Telefonica Moviles Espana. helloNetwork's enabling technology is allowing the two companies to repurpose a multitude of content to wireless subscribers. These content applications will offer a greater opportunity for extending into non-voice, non-game services that will generate new revenue," said helloNetwork CEO Victor Siegel.
helloNetwork has provided Portalmix with its helloMobile Encoder Appliance and playback applications. Portalmix is responsible for preparing and delivering selected content to Telefonica Moviles for distribution via its MoviStar e-mocion portal. The initial offering will be consumer-oriented video content in helloNetwork's VideoScreenSaver(TM) format. This download- and-play application will offer audiovisual clips of popular bloopers and candid-camera style outtakes to Telefonica Moviles Espana subscribers. Deployments will initially run on Nokia Series 60 devices, to be followed shortly thereafter by Series 30 and 40, Motorola terminals, as well as iMode handsets.
While the deployment is intended for the Spanish market, due to the general nature of Portalmix's content, market entries in the rest of Europe are expected to follow shortly. Portalmix has a strong track record running very successful large-scale promotions that include joint marketing campaigns with leading entertainment firms, including broadcasters. helloNetwork is currently in discussions and will soon announce its relationship with several other content owners to repurpose similar properties for the greater European market."
