Indian Network Steps Up Fight Against Fraud
Subex Systems, the Bangalore, India-based Telecom Software Products company says that it has signed a contract with the largest mobile operator in India, Bharti Cellular, to deploy its flagship Fraud Management System (FMS), Ranger. Bharti had earlier deployed Ranger FMS in two of its networks - Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. With the new order, Ranger has been deployed across all the networks of Bharti in India.
Ranger aids wireless and wireline telecom carriers to curb fraud through the use of subscriber profiling techniques and advanced analytical capabilities. Ranger has been designed in such a way that it accepts different data sources for efficient fraud detection and is also capable of addressing fraud in emerging areas like GPRS and 3G technologies.
Bharti Cellular is India's leading private sector provider of telecommunications services with about 24.2% market share in the country, with nearly 3.34 million customers. Leading partners in Bharti include SingTel and Warburg Pincus, besides other international financial investors such as International Finance Corporation, Asian Infrastructure Fund Group and New York Life Insurance. Mobile services constitute the largest portion of Bharti's business both in terms of total revenues and total customers. The Company today offers mobile services in 15 out of 22 circles in India with a presence in as many 12 Indian states. Bharti's mobile services are offered under the brand names, Airtel.
"With the Bharti order, Subex's Ranger FMS has been deployed in all the major Indian private mobile operators, including Hutch, Idea Cellular and BPL Mobile, and we now have total coverage of the GSM market in the country. Also, Ranger is the only FMS in the Indian GSM market", said Mr. Subash Menon, President and CEO, Subex Systems, while commenting on the contract.
Global telecom studies have revealed that telecom operators lose as much as 10% through revenue leakage and about 40% in terms of churn leading to substantial loss of revenue and profits and additional cost of acquisition and retention of subscribers.
