Nortel Wins Barbados GSM Contract

Sunbeach Communications has selected Nortel Networks to deploy a GSM and GPRS network in Barbados. Under a supply agreement, Nortel Networks will deploy its complete Univity GSM/GPRS solution, including base stations and switching equipment.

"Sunbeach aims to offer the latest and most advanced services to its customers, and the expansion into the wireless arena will allow us to provide 'always on' services at higher speeds to an even larger customer base," said Michael Wakley, managing director, Sunbeach. "We chose Nortel Networks for their experience in implementing world-class, advanced wireless networks, their ability to leverage synergies in our existing ISP networks, and their understanding of our market and its requirements."

"As a leading wireless infrastructure provider in the Caribbean, Nortel Networks is pleased to work with Sunbeach, and to support them in delivering compelling new services to their customers," said Kevin Taylor, director, Wireless Networks for Nortel Networks in the Caribbean and Latin America. "This is a strategic regional win for Nortel Networks, as Sunbeach will be the first locally-owned wireless operator in Barbados. Our proven GSM solution will help position Sunbeach to drive revenues through new wireless data service offerings and to drive lower operational costs."
