Exide Wins 3G Backup Power Contract
Exide Technologies has recently secured a new contract agreement with 3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS) to supply batteries for the Swedish 3G network. 3GIS is a joint venture project involving Vodafone, 3 (formerly Hi3G) and Orange, responsible for building a countrywide 3G network in Sweden.
According to the terms of the contract, Exide will supply FT 12V 105 network power batteries designed to provide emergency backup power. The new contract makes Exide the largest battery supplier for the UMTS in Sweden.
"By 2010, the market for high-quality wireless multimedia communications could exceed two billion users worldwide," said Craig H. Muhlhauser, Chairman and CEO of Exide Technologies. "As one of the world's largest manufacturers of industrial and transportation batteries with an expansive global presence, Exide is in the best position to accelerate the deployment of this much anticipated technology."
