Namibia Prepares to Award Second GSM License
Detecon International is providing support to Namibia for the expansion of its mobile network. By adding another provider, the south African country wants to improve communications opportunities for its citizens and open up the mobile network market to more competition. The German consulting company is advising the national telecommunications regulation authorities during the awarding of a second mobile network license. The project has a volume of US$260,000 and will run for a period of ten months.
In allowing an additional mobile network to begin operations, the Namibian government aims to improve the development of rural and remote areas. A GSM license in the 900 MHz frequency range will be awarded. The regulation authorities, the Namibian Communications Commission (NCC), will award the license following a bidding procedure.
Detecon experts, with their many years of experience from around the globe in the development of mobile telecommunications networks, are supporting the NCC in this process.
They are preparing proposals for the licensing procedure and the criteria for the bids. In addition, they are coordinating the selection process, will make recommendations regarding the selection of the winning bid, and will determine the time periods for the licensing procedure and the network construction. The consultants' tasks also include the formulation of the most important key data of the mobile network license."
