Serbia to Get Independent Regulator
The Serbian Parliament has passed the Bill on telecommunications, proposed by the Serbian government, which stipulates the setting up of an independent regulatory body: The Telecommunications Agency, which will be responsible for the telecom sector, read a statement by the Serbian Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications.
The Agency will invite tenders, elect operators on the basis of previously established and published criteria and oversee the development of the telecommunications sector in Serbia.
The Agency will be completely independent in its work; free of political, financial or any other kind of influence and pressure. That way, the Agency will be able to base its work on the principle of professionalism, taking into account the interests of society as a whole, and not of individuals or special interest groups, read the statement.
The Agency will consist of five members who will be appointed by the Serbian Parliament at the proposal of the Serbian government."
