Vega Reports Strong Annual Growth
At the end of last year Vega had more than 64 thousand active users, said Julien Coustaury, general director of Western Wireless Internation Slovenia at a press conference on annual and Q4 results of the Solvenian network, Vega. Of those 20% were subscribers and 80% pre-paid. "We have reached our operational cruise speed and we are satisfied with Vega's results in the first year of operation, especially regarding subscribers growth, when in the last quarter of 2002 alone, traffic in our network grew by 65 percent," said Coustaury.
Vega users made more than 11 million calls in the last three months of 2002, which, compared to Q3, means the growth rate in excess of 50%. The number of SMS's sent by users grew also by 20%. "Vega will in 2003 even strengthen its position as the price-leader in the Slovenian mobile market," added Coustaury, "with our "SELEKT" offer, Vega is the only operator to remove price boundaries between networks"
Vega's marketing strategy last year has also played a role in its success in this market. Of them the most noticeable was cooperation with the football team Vega Olimpija, which finished the autumn part of Slovenia's first league at top position and is a strong contender to win the title and the Slovenian cup this year.
In the year ahead Vega is determined to remove the structural impediment to compete in the Slovenian market, said Coustaury. "Our actions will be in most part determined by what the regulating body does. We hope it will step in and resolve the inconsistencies in this market, enabling healthy competition among operators." That is why Vega is in the process of filing a complaint to the Telecommunications, Broadcasting and Mail Agency, relying on a prompt reaction from the regulator for the benefit for the Slovenian mobile user.
