Ignore SMS Prank, Safaricom Advices"
Kenya's mobile phone service provider Safaricom, has warned it's subscribers to ignore a misleading SMS prank that is in circulation. The SMS prank allegedly promises a Kshs 500 (US$6.63) airtime reward as part of the firm's birthday celebration and move onto the 0721 prefix.
The firm has consequently advised all its subscribers to delete such messages to avoid further inconveniences.
"This is to advise our valued subscribers to ignore the SMS prank promising a reward from us. Such promises will not be honored on our network and we wish to dissociate from their contents," the firm's General Manager, Michael Joseph said.
As a socially responsible firm, Joseph explained that the firm will only advise its subscribers of such reward schemes through the media and not through anonymous messages. Joseph added that internal investigations are underway to establish the motive behind such messages."
