Vodafone Orders Lucent PrePay Software

Lucent Technologies has said that Portugal's Vodafone Telecel will expand its pre-paid facilities using software and services from Lucent Technologies. The agreement will enable Vodafone Telecel to increase its pre-paid service capability to accommodate growing traffic demand created by the introduction of new data services such as Vodafone Live!, GPRS and m-commerce to quickly introduce new offers that will give Vodafone Telecel a competitive market advantage.

Lucent is providing its MiLife SurePay suite of pre-paid services, a highly scalable, convergent network solution that will support both voice and data services for Vodafone Telecel's network. The solution will allow Vodafone Telecel to create customised new services for end users including flexible charge plans and account management. It will also enable the mobile operator to offer different service levels according to customer group.

Vodafone Telecel will be able to monitor and manage voice and data calls in real-time ensuring accuracy of billing and as a result, reliably introduce personalised pricing plans or special offers to customers according to usage.

As part of the agreement, Lucent will upgrade Vodafone Telecel's Intelligent Network architecture and trial the Lucent Virtual Private Networks (eVPN) solution. Lucent WorldWide Services will provide installation services and manage the implementation of the project. Lucent also will provide ongoing support once the implementation has been completed."
