New 3G Handset from Motorola
A report on the web site of the American telecoms regulator, the FCC has given a sneak preview of a new Motorola handset, the A920. The handset is a triband GSM handset that also supports WCDMA. It comes with a removable memory card, a touch-screen which changes from a keypad to other services based on what the user is doing at the time. The screen also supports handwriting recognition.
Video conferencing (and still photography) is also supported as is MMS, although the MMS's will have a maximum file size of just 30kb. The smartphone is powered by Symbian OS with the UIQ platform as the user interface. The handset can also playback mp3 music files.
As can be seen from the photo taken from the FCC web site - the handset has been branded with the 3 logo, suggesting that Motorola has already secured sales of the phone.
The handset also includes a viruscan application that may be a portent of the long anticipated arrival of virus's for mobile phones. An "airline" mode allows the smartphone to be used while the radio connection is switched off - making it safer for the smartphone to be used during a plane flight."
