SchlumbergerSema Deploys GSM-R Software
SchlumbergerSema says that it has delivered consulting and systems integration services to develop and implement the user management IT solution based on BSCS, its customer care and billing solution, for the new GSM-R (GSM-Railway) communications system at Germany's national railway network, Deutsche Bahn.
GSM-R, a modified version of the GSM mobile radio standard that has been specially designed to support the European rail industry, replaces legacy analog communications systems at Deutsche Bahn. It provides improved, secure and reliable communication between station, train and signal office staff and equipment, whilst enabling new services and increasing efficiency. With the European rail industry facing deregulation, it also enhances interoperability between the different rail operators.
SchlumbergerSema has implemented its solution, based on BSCS, seamlessly into the Deutsche Bahn infrastructure. Incorporating the specific technical and security requirements of the GSM-R standard, the SchlumbergerSema solution provides Deutsche Bahn with a number of functions including user management and accounting of mobile services via GSM-R. SchlumbergerSema is providing technical support for the service.
'The user management system is an important requirement for non-discriminative access of all the transport companies to the GSM-R network,' explained Dr. Christoph Bergdolt, managing director Germany, CIS and Eastern Europe, SchlumbergerSema.
'Drawing on SchlumbergerSema consulting and systems integration expertise, the implementation of the GSM-R user management system based on BSCS was delivered on time and has been successfully operating since December 2002'."
