Alcatel Wins Argentinean GSM Contract
Alcatel has signed a frame agreement with Telecom Personal, a subsidiary of Telecom Argentina group, for the extension of its GSM/GPRS 1900MHz network in Argentina. Under the terms of this agreement, Alcatel will supply Personal with its Evolium GSM solution comprising the whole Evolium BSS product range (Multistandard base Station, Base Station Controller, Operation & Maintenance Center) as well as the Evolium Multi-BSS Fast Packet Server for GPRS/EDGE specific hardware and functions.
When completed, by mid 2003, the deployment of this extended GSM/GPRS 1900MHz network will allow Telecom Personal to offer better quality of services, including international roaming and attractive new mobile internet services, to its customers in Mendoza city area.
Alcatel manages all aspects of the project from site acquisition, civil construction and equipment installation to Operation and Maintenance (O&M). Furthermore, Alcatel has installed a Technical Assistance Center (TAC) in Brazil for GSM/GPRS mobile networks which is supplying 24-hours technical support to mobile operators in Latin America.
"As Asia, Latin America is, doubtless, a fast developing GSM market. Alcatel has closely followed the technological evolution of mobile networks in Latin America. It has consequently structured itself and created the necessary competence to service the new entrants as well as the existing operators choosing the GSM technology as the evolution path to new generation mobile multimedia services.", declared Marc Rouanne, COO of Alcatel's Mobile Communications group."
