Huawei Launches Soft Switch UMTS Core
China's Huawei Technologies has released a UMTS Core Network based on soft switch architecture. It supports both R4 and R99 of 3GPP standards, and can be evolved to R5. In addition, it also supports simultaneous access of 2G/2.5G BSS and UTRAN. The central part of the soft switch architecture is the separation of control and bearer. Based on the soft switch architecture Huawei's Core Network is future application- proven for multimedia services and is scalable to address the long-term development needs for the UMTS network. It can significantly increase the system capacity and integration-level.
In addition, Huawei's Core Network solution features large capacity, high integration and smooth expansion. It is future-oriented and operators will benefit from its advantages such as fewer network elements, optimal network structure, smaller equipment room size, timely expansion according to requirements, and easier upgrade with minimum impact on the existing network.
"I'm very delighted to announce that Huawei's UMTS products are ready for commercial applications,"said Mr. Chengdong Yu, Vice President of Huawei Technologies and Chief Director of the company's wireless products. "With years of experiences and expertise in the mobile communications industry, Huawei is capable of delivering an operable and profitable UMTS network to our customers worldwide."
