MMS Interconnection Launched in Greece

Published on:

MMS interconnection has come to Greece, with the launch of interperability between the three networks, Vodafone Cosmote and Telestet. Interoperability is expected to contribute significantly to the success and growth of MMS, as there will be no restrictions on users sending MMS messages between different networks.

Cosmote launched its Multimedia Messaging Service commercially last September and says that at the end of January 2003 had approximately 22,000 MMS users who sent more than 420,000 MMS during that same period.

Telestet itself has also launched a MMS based weather report service, providing weather forecasts for all capital cities within the Hellenic precinct, and major tourist resorts. Weather forecasts are given for the same day or for the next two days. The service will trace the location of the handset and will send the forecast for the area where the user might be located, although users can also type in a different location if they prefer. The forecasts through MMS have up to 7 motion pictures by which all the different weather conditions can be displayed, such as, the temperature, predictions for (sunshine, cloudiness, rain, etc.), the wind intensity and direction, the date and time. The forecast is given for the next 24 -hours and re-distributed every 6-hours."
