Eurotel Launches MMS Roaming

Eurotel customers can exchange MMS messages not only inside the Czech Republic, but also with customers abroad. In cooperation with Orange in Slovakia, Eurotel is the first Czech operator - and one of the first in the world - enabling customers to send MMS messages to customers of a foreign operator. The collaboration between Eurotel Praha and Orange Slovakia is the first step in interconnecting MMS services between Central European operators. Until now, Eurotel customers was only possible to send and receive MMS messages from abroad or within the Czech Republic.

"In the future, we'll be able to send MMS messages all around the world, just as with SMS today," says Garrison Macri, Eurotel's chief commercial officer. "And the price will be the same. Using Eurotel to send an MMS locally, from abroad, or to a foreign operator costs less than ten crowns. It's less expensive than sending a postcard from abroad."

Moreover, among the local operators, Eurotel has the largest number of GPRS roaming partners. This means Eurotel customers can send home photographs with sound and text attachments from 21 different countries. Eurotel research suggests that customers will use MMS messages to replace traditional postcards during holidays and other trips abroad. GPRS roaming is one of the main strategic elements enabling this expansion of MMS."
