Hawaii Moves to Ban Cellphone Use While Driving
A bill to ban the use of a cell phone while driving has been introduced in Hawaii's legislature by Sen. Joseph Souki, D-Wailuku-Waiehu. The bill bans drivers from holding the cell phone close to their ear - unless it can be shown afterwards that they were not engaged in a phone call at the time.
Exceptions include making a call to the USA's emergency line, 911 or the use of a cell phone by a police officer, firefighter or emergency medical personnel while performing official duties. Hands free kit usage is allowed.
Any offender would be fined no more than US$100 per infraction."
