Joint Venture to Develop Indoor 3G Coverage

The in-building wireless networking group has formed a joint venture with the 3G base station developer, KEVAB to conduct joint marketing and test activities with KEVAB's OneBASE 3G Pico Base Station (Node B) and LGC's InterReach Unison Distributed Antenna System (DAS).

From this activity, the companies expect to demonstrate the advantages of combing a state-of-the-art 3G indoor picocell with a high performance DAS, achieving a high quality indoor coverage solution at cost points not previously achievable with conventional solutions. "KEVAB has taken a very innovative approach in the design of a 3G picocell" said Ian Sugarbroad, President & CEO of LGC Wireless. "When we couple their solution with the extensive experience LGC has with in-building products, I think it give us a winning combination for 3G operators."

"LGC's impressive Unison product is an excellent match with our 3G pico base station," says Kjell Vernet, President and CEO of KEVAB. "This cooperation allows us to broaden our addressable market and to reach more operators in a shorter time."

InterReach Unison is a Distributed Antenna System providing seamless mobile communication access for public or private venues. LGC patented technology allows the use of the same fiber/twisted-pair cabling infrastructure commonly used in Local Area Network (LAN) network for wireless voice and data applications. OneBASE is designed for indoor pico environments and is the ideal solution for hot spots in shopping malls, airports, hotels and office environments. It is powerful enough to make 3G available to corporate users, and at the same time, cost-effective for coverage applications in low traffic areas."
