Hutchison Using IP Communications to Boost Worker Efficiency

The UK based 3G license holder, Hutchison 3G has completed Europe's first deployment of Succession Communication Server for Enterprise (CSE) 1000 from Nortel Networks. Implemented by BT Business Information Systems (BIS), this new IP-based enterprise solution is delivering business telephony services to eight Hutchison 3G office locations across the UK.

Hutchison 3G's IP telephony solution includes features such as 'hot desking,' which enables employees to 'log on' to any IP phone with just a PIN number. Hutchinson 3G employees and contractors are also benefiting from a 'unified messaging' platform, which gives users a single mailbox for both mobile and fixed line phones.

"The main driver for switching to IP telephony was to establish a fully integrated corporate and mobile network internally," said Paul Craig, engineering and operations director, Hutchison 3G UK Ltd. "We are also centralising the telephony system so our data centres will remotely power the system for our various offices and mobile workforce. BT BIS and Nortel Networks proved to be a dynamic team on the installation, and we expect to continue working together on further developments and enhancements."
