Lucent Tests CDMA Targeted at China's Radio Spectrum
Lucent Technologies has said that it is the first vendor in North America to complete CDMA2000 voice and high-speed data wireless calls in the 2.1 GHz spectrum. The 2.1GHz band is being considered for deployment in China. Using a CDMA2000 2.1 GHz test terminal and Lucent's CDMA2000 infrastructure, Lucent demonstrated mobile data services at data speeds of up to 153kbps when the test terminal was connected to a laptop.
"We are committed to providing mobile operators with a range of CDMA2000 and UMTS solutions, which will enable them to introduce new mobile high-speed data services to businesses and consumers in China," said Jason Chi, chairman of Lucent China. "These successful calls further demonstrate our spread-spectrum CDMA expertise and leadership."
In August 2002, the CDMA Development Group (CDG) and eight wireless vendors, Lucent among them, signed a MoU to deliver CDMA2000 infrastructure, terminal equipment and related technology to be used for 2.1 GHz spectrum. The initial equipment is being developed to support the 3G trial efforts of China's Ministry of Information Industries (MII)."
