Unicom Announces a Fourth Cdm2000 1X Contract

Alcatel has been awarded a US$11 million dollars CDMA-network contract by Gansu Unicom, a subsidiary of China Unicom. The contract was won through Alcatel Shanghai Bell, Alcatel's Chinese operation. Under the terms of this contract, Alcatel will provide coverage for eight regions of the Gansu province via its CDMA 2000 1X product and technology.

Liu Shouguo, general manager of Gansu Unicom, declared: "We truly appreciate our partnership with Alcatel. This CDMA network will offer our customers higher capacity and more value-added services to meet their ever growing demands."

Marc Rouanne, President of Alcatel's Mobile Networks activities, added: "This win is the first success for Alcatel in the China Unicom group's CDMA project. With our advanced products and quality of services, we believe that Alcatel will continue its stride and gain further CDMA contracts in other provinces."

This contract is in addition to the swath of contracts announced yesterday by China Unicom to build out its cdma2000 1X network.'"
