MMS Comes to CDMA Handsets
Logica and Rocket Mobile have jointly demonstrated a MMS client for CDMA2000 1X mobile phones. This technology will enable the delivery of multimedia messages to BREW enabled CDMA mobile handsets worldwide via Logica's Picasso MMS Centre (MMSC). More than 127 million mobile subscribers around the world currently use CDMA technology. Logica and Rocket Mobile have teamed to introduce the industry's first ever MMS client that will allow BREW-based CDMA handsets to receive and send multimedia messages.
The first stage of the solution, which will be demonstrated at CTIA Wireless IT and Internet conference on 16-18 October in Las Vegas, delivers picture-messaging capabilities. Further audio and video functionality will be incorporated during later stages of development and will be announced at a later date.
"Handset compatibility is a key component to ensure mass adoption of MMS," said Patrick Lopez, Logica MMS program director. "The joint agreement with Rocket Mobile underlines our commitment to encouraging interoperability of mobile systems, and at the same time demonstrates our ability to innovate and deploy MMS across all network technology, with the greatest variety of devices."
"Wireless handsets are, first and foremost, communications devices. The innovations from Logica and Rocket Mobile, as they bring MMS solutions to BREW-enabled phones, are significant and important to the entire industry," said Gina Lombardi, senior vice president of marketing and product management, Qualcomm Internet Services.'"
