Anite Telecoms says that its latest GPRS handset test solution enabled network operator Vodafone Ireland to halve the time taken for testing new handsets prior to their launch on its network. The Anite SAS+, a six-channel GPRS Network Simulator, has been employed by Vodafone Ireland's Network Optimization & Handset Validation team to ensure that any new mobile operates without problem on the Vodafone Ireland network. Through its use, the operator has cut what used to be an eight-day field trial regime, involving extensive 'drive-testing,' down to just four days of field-trial simulation in the laboratory.
"We selected Anite's SAS+ solution because it performs field trial functions that cannot be replicated through other systems," said Markie Becker, manager for handset validations, Vodafone Ireland.
Anite's SAS+ has the ability to simulate up to eight cells under laboratory conditions, highlighting and controlling inter-working issues such as power, synchronization, bit error rate and fading.
"The ability of our solution to address field trials as laboratory simulations is one of its fundamental strengths," said Daniel Oosthuizen, director, Anite Telecoms. "It fills an important gap for operators that not only saves them up to 50% of expensive field testing time, but also enables them to get the latest handsets onto their networks faster, safe in the knowledge that they will operate as expected."'"
