Omnitel Launches MMS in Lithuania

Lithuania's Omnitel has launched its MMS service, with free MMS sending until the 1st December. Taking into account the market capacity, Omnitel developed a method for testing MMS service for those who haven't bought an MMS capable device yet. If an MMS message is sent to an MMS incapable handset, the addressee receives an SMS specifying an internet link, message ID and a password. When the link is opened and all the authorising data is entered, the MMS message will appear in the screen with the text, photo or a link to the sound record.

"We seek to offer the most state-of-the-art technologies and the latest possibilities enabled by them to our customers - MMS will become the first service allowing the transmission of images via a mobile network. MMS messages have become exceptionally popular worldwide - we expect the same popularity in our country as well, since Lithuanian mobile users are very fast to embrace innovations. For some time the service will be available free of charge,"- said Omnitel's Vice-President
