Tecnomen Wins Venezuelan Messaging Contract
Tecnomen has secured a contract with Venezuela's Digitel in a deal worth around US$1 million. Under the contract, Tecnomen will supply a messaging system expansion, for the Venezuelan operator's existing system. Commercial usage of the new system began in September 2002.
Digitel has been providing GSM mobile services to the central region of Venezuela since 1998, and introduced commercial usage of the messaging system supplied by Tecnomen in the spring of 1999. Digitel is part of the TIM Group.
The largely urban area of Venezuela covered by Digitel, is considered to be an as yet largely untapped source of potential profit for network operators and vendors alike, because of the high degree of purchasing power of those living in the area.'"
