InterWAVE Wins Two African Orders
interWAVE says that its new radio base station has won two contracts totaling over US$6 million, with both contracts representing deployments in Africa. The UltraWAVE BTS is interWAVE's high capacity, macro Base Transceiver Station (BTS) with initial configuration of 6 transceivers (TRX) and capable of supporting up to 12 TRX radios in one compact cabinet. The flexibility of this system to support multiple sectors, each with a high density of radios per sector, is ideal for providing coverage in both urban and rural areas.
"interWAVE is pleased to provide its customers with its high capacity BTS, which addresses the growing needs of our customer base," said Bill Carlin, VP of worldwide sales and customer service for interWAVE. "Our UltraWAVE BTS is ideal for operators that have a high density of subscribers in a small area and are looking for higher capacity systems. This new product line gives our customers an upgrade path to increase capacity and also opens up a new segment of the market that interWAVE can address and compete well in, where new networks of high density are being built in populated metropolitan cities. Our systems are designed for easy expansion, which allows smaller operators to increase their capacity to meet growth through a safe and easy field upgrade -- without needing to rely on interWAVE's field support."
Designed for trouble-free expansion, interWAVE's UltraWAVE BTS features field replaceable modules that are hot swappable, and can be upgraded to support up to 12 TRXs in a three sector configuration. The replacement procedure can be done without having to shut down or recalibrate the system to restore normal operations. This approach allows an operator to employ an incremental, build-as-you-grow approach -- as subscriber demand increases, the initial deployment can easily expand into a higher capacity system that is capable of supporting more than a thousand subscribers.'"
