Greece Bans Cell Phone Games
Greece has enacted a law that appears to make the playing of games in cell phones illegal. According to a report in the Greek newspaper Kathimerini, "The police will be responsible for catching offenders, who will face fines of 5,000 to 75,000 euros and imprisonment of one to 12 months. The blanket ban was decided in February after the government admitted it was incapable of distinguishing innocuous video games from illegal gambling machines."
The new law, brought in to clamp down on the already illegal on-line gambling, bans games with 'electric, electro-mechanical and electronic' components. A test case is due in court next week, which is being backed by the Greek gaming communities, to try an overthrow the law.'"
