More Tests in Malta Show Base Stations Within Guidelines

Malta's telecoms regulator has published the results of a second batch of base station tests. Mobile phone base stations in Kalkara, Cospicua, Senglea, Santa Venera, B'Kara, B'Bugia, Fgura, Floriana, Hamrun, Mellieha and Mosta were audited during August. This is the second batch of base stations that are being tested to ensure that the radiation level at and around the site of the antennae are below the maximum safe levels stated by the ICNIRP for the general public.

All measurements taken so far are below 5% of the maximum safe level for public exposure as stated by the above guidelines. The readings published were taken at locations accessible to the public and residents. Higher values of radiation (which are still well below the safe limits of the ICNIRP) can be obtained when measurements are taken at very close proximity (within a few metres and at similar height) to an antenna but these are typically locations that are not reachable by the general public and hence are of minimal concern.

The third batch of audits is already under way, will continue into September and results will be published as soon as they are available.'"
