South African Network Upgrades Messaging Platform

South Africa's newest GSM network, Cell C has awarded Tecnomen a contract to upgrade its current Tecnomen eZONER messaging system. Scheduled for delivery in October 2002, this upgrade will significantly expand the operator's voice mail system. Cell C selected Tecnomen eZONER messaging system in July 2001 and one year later in June 2002, Tecnomen supplied Cell C with an upgrade which expanded the subscriber base by 300,000 customers.

"Tecnomen successfully concluded the initial implementation, well in advance of the original schedule", says Mr. Matti Kakko, Director, Tecnomen Middle East and Africa. "A major factor in achieving this is the excellent co-operation between Cell C and Tecnomen throughout the different phases."

Tecnomen eZONER is a portfolio of messaging services that enables operators and service providers to target specific end-user groups with tailored combinations of messaging services, and to add new service combinations according to their needs. Tecnomen eZONER has advanced multimedia capabilities, and provides rich messaging services that fully utilise next-generation networks.

Cell C, which went to market in November 2001, has gained over 750,000 active subscribers in less than nine months. '"
