According to Dell'Oro Group, shipments of GSM/GPRS/EDGE infrastructure transceivers (or radios) declined 7% year on year, to 359 thousand units in the second quarter of this year.
"Although revenues for GSM/GPRS/EDGE infrastructure equipment declined in excess of 20% Y/Y, transceiver unit shipments declined only 7%, reflecting an 18% decline in average selling prices", says Greg Collins, a Director at Dell'Oro Group. Moreover, the number of transceivers per macro Base Transceiver Station (BTS) has been level at just over six for the last few quarters.
