Siemens Wins Malaysian Contract
Malaysia's Technology Resources Industries (TRI) has reportedly awarded a contract to Siemens to replace 173 base stations . The Malay Mail reports that the existing Lucent supplied kit is to be completely replaced by Siemens.
The paper says that the contract covers the eastern corridor of the Malaysian peninsula, comprising Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
The report also said the normal estimate per-site cost is in the region of US$15,000 but Siemens is offering to do the work for just US$7,100 per base station. Presumably they can save on costs by reusing some of the housing and tower infrastructure, just replacing the electronics and cabling.'"
