Handset Boss Takes over As COO of Motorola
Motorola has appointed Mike Zafirovski, currently executive vice president and president of Motorola's cell phone division, the Personal Communications Sector, as its new President and Chief Operating Officer, a post previously held by Edward D. Breen who left to join Tyco International.
"I selected Mike for this position and the Board of Directors quickly confirmed Mike's appointment this afternoon, demonstrating the effectiveness of our Leadership Supply process," said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher B. Galvin. "Under Mike's leadership, over the past two years. Motorola's handset business has gained market share, returned to profitability and introduced an exciting portfolio of products," said Galvin. "With his track record of solid results, both at Motorola and at General Electric, Inc., I am confident that he will continue the momentum of Motorola's turnaround, and I look forward to having him join the Office of the Chairman."
Zafirovski will also continue as President of Motorola's Personal Communications Sector until a successor is named.'"
