Hong Kong based SmarTone has extended its 4G coverage to the new Kwun Tong Line Extension, covering the new Whampoa and Ho Man Tin stations. SmarTone will further extend its 4G coverage to all stations on the South Island Line (East) in the end of 2016.

SmarTone was appointed by the MTR Corporation (MTRC) to lead the design, management and implementation of a multi-operator Integrated Radio System (IRS) for the two new MTR lines.

The new mobile systems in the new MTR stations offer multiple times the traffic capacity in existing MTR stations.

"SmarTone is committed to offering the greatest Internet experience and enjoyment to our customers," said Mr. Stephen Chau, Chief Technology Officer at SmarTone. " We have also been working closely with MTRC to upgrade and expand the capacity of the existing MTR urban lines, which include the high-traffic stations on the Island Line, Kwun Tong Line and Tsuen Wan Line. SmarTone will continue to invest in spectrum and LTE-Advanced Pro / pre-5G technologies within the next few years,"
