Connecticut Network Customers Loose Service

Cellphone service to about 9,000 Connecticut Mobilecom customers was disconnected on Monday following a dispute with the USA network, Verizon Wireless that has pushed the company into seeking Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Connecticut Mobilecom is a subsidiary of Connecticut Telephone and the parent company is not affected by the decision to seek bankruptcy protection.

At the moment, Connecticut Mobilecom can still receive calls, but cannot make them. Mobilecom is a reseller of Verizon Wireless airtime and does not posses any network infrastructure of its own. The company says that it was not given any warning of the shut off by Verizon Wireless and says that the move is to put pressure on it to resolve an outstanding dispute over the wholesale price it pays for its airtime. It is Connecticut Mobilecom's intent to re-organize under the Bankruptcy Code, to continue operating and to resolve its underlying dispute with Verizon Wireless.'"
