Tekelec Adds GPRS Security to its Test Rigs
Tekelec has added another security validation product to its Message Generator Traffic Simulator (MGTS) family of diagnostic products. Validation of authentication and ciphering is now available for testing GPRS and is to be followed by UMTS.
Authentication is the procedure in which a cell phone connects to the wireless system using the security code to the phone; authentication is required to prevent unauthorized or fraudulent use on the network. Ciphering, whether signaling or data, encrypts communications in order to protect confidentiality. Together, the services enhance the security carriers are able to provide to customers.
"To address heightened concerns about security, Tekelec is developing test solutions for manufacturers and carriers alike," said Lee Smith, vice president and general manager of the Tekelec Network Diagnostics Division. "Ciphering is an integral part of the rollout of third-generation (3G) technology. Further, the Tekelec validates ciphering using a solution embedded in the MGTS hardware - unlike most offerings that are software based. The solution emulates real network conditions and can handle high-volume traffic. The ability to test authentication and ciphering are major assets to R & D labs."'"
