Irish mobile network operator, Meteor Mobile has been fined EUR25,000 by a court after it was found to have sold discounted deals to customers that didn't exist and refused to compensate the customers.
The company pleaded guilty at Dublin District Court to breaching statutory regulations.
Meteor Mobile had offered a 50 percent discount deal to customers, but when it was withdrawn, staff continued to offer it to new customers. The company later withdrew the discount from the affected customers, but did so without warning, or offering their statutory rights to terminate their contracts.
A total of 123 customers were affected, and refunds were only offered following intervention from the telecoms regulator, Comreg
Comreg has accepted a guilty plea for 10 counts, and dropped the remaining charges.
