The UAE's two mobile networks have both blocked the latest version of the Snapchat app for violating local VoIP regulations.

In a recent upgrade, Snapchat added a feature that allows users to have voice and video conversations with other users.

However, in doing so, it has run foul of the UAE's ban on VoIP based services that are not explicitly authorised by the two mobile networks, Du and Etisalat.

In a statement, Du said, "Companies wishing to provide [VoIP] services should coordinate with the UAE's licensed service providers in this regard."
