Thailand's DTAC has announced that it will lift its network investment budget to Bt70 billion (USD2 billion) up to 2018.
The investment will go on expanding its 4G network, and an upgrade of its national backbone network to cope with the rising data traffic caused by the 4G services.
The company had already earmarked the money, but it was to be spent on radio spectrum. Having failed to win a license last year, it will now redirect the spending to the network infrastructure. It will refarm some of its existing 1800Mhz spectrum for the 4G service.
DTAC also aims to double the number of its 4G subscribers to 4.5 million by year end, it said in a statement.
The company currently has 25.3 million subscribers, of which 2.3 million are on the 4G network.
