Grameenphone Tests Free Wi-Fi Service

Bangladesh's Grameenphone is launching a free Wi Fi internet service for its customers nationwide.

By 2015, the company has an ambition to connect minimum 30 important locations in the country under its' Wi-Fi umbrella. Initially, it will be a pilot project, and only Grameenphone customers will get access to the service at free of cost for the first 3 months.

In the Wi-Fi hotspots, Grameenphone customers will see a Wi-Fi SSID named "GP WiFi" in the Wi-Fi option on their devices; after connecting to the GP WiFi SSID customers need to register with their GP number, this generates an SMS to customers number which enable them to access the free Wi-Fi service.

Aamra Networks, one of the largest ISPs in Bangladesh will provide technical support to GP in this great initiative.

The company did not elaborate on what charges it might apply after the first three months of use.
