TELOS Wins Icelandic GSM Contract

International Mobile Communications (IMC), the provider of WorldCell mobile phones used by international travelers, has purchased wireless infrastructure equipment from TELOS Technology. The TELOS softswitch and gateway solution enables IMC to build a wireless network in Iceland, as well as enhance worldwide roaming capabilities for its WorldCell customer base.

IMC will use the TELOS solution to provide GSM service to the metropolitan area of Akureyri and seven surrounding municipalities in Iceland, as well as to form the core infrastructure for IMC's global roaming platform for its WorldCell international cellular service. The TELOS solution includes the Sonata SE Wireless SoftSwitch and TELOS Intelligent Gateways.

"Because the TELOS solution is packet-based, we can very efficiently transport a call and associated control and accounting data around the globe, giving us a tremendous advantage over our competitors," noted S. Blake Swensrud II, chairman and CEO, IMC. "TELOS has long advocated that wireless softswitch technology, and packet networks provide unlimited opportunity for new and inventive solutions," said Jack Mar, president and CEO, TELOS Technology. "Visionary companies like IMC see immediate and valuable applications for next generation solutions from TELOS," added Mar.'"
