Mobility Infrastructure Continues to Decline

According to a recently published report by Dell'Oro Group, the Mobility Infrastructure market continued its decline in 1Q02 posting revenues of US$6.9 billion.

"Mobility Infrastructure has been declining for several reasons," says Greg Collins, a Director at Dell'Oro Group. "First, in many regions subscriber penetration rates are high and subscriber growth is slowing. Second, average revenue per user (ARPU) is declining, especially for voice services, and data applications have yet to generate enough incremental revenues to reverse the overall decline in ARPU."

According to the report, the Dell'Oro Group benchmark/a on ARPU declined 11% compared to 1Q01 to US$33 per month. According to Greg Collins, "both price pressures and a strong subscriber growth in low-ARPU areas like China, contributed to the decline."
