InterWAVE Comments on 13 USA Contracts
interWAVE Communications says that since the beginning of the year, its GSM technology has been deployed throughout 13 North American markets, including a recent contract from Elitel, a Laredo, Texas-based PCS operator, now offering community cellular service along the Texas/ Mexico border. In many of these deployments, and due to very tight deployment deadlines, the networks were installed and functioning within a matter of days.
"As a result of our ability to deploy fully-functional, GSM networks in a matter of days and at very competitive price points, interWAVE's GSM systems have become the preferred solution for rural North American PCS carriers," said Len Gee, general manager for interWAVE. "This contract with Elitel marks interWAVE's 13th North American deployment since January 1, 2002, giving us a considerable entry into the North American GSM marketplace."
As a result of interWAVE's Network-In-A-Box solution, a fully-integrated system that combines switching (MSC), Base Station Controller (BSC) and Base Transceiver Station (BTS) capabilities in a cabinet approximately the size of a tower PC, operators like Elitel are now able to deploy a GSM network quickly and cost effectively.
Aside from Elitel, interWAVE has successfully deployed GSM networks for other North American operators including Northstar in Kentucky, Cellular One in Arizona and New Mexico, FB Communications in several states and Consolidated Telcom in North Dakota.'"
