Digicel Fiji has announced plans to spend FJ$70 million expanding and upgrading its mobile data network this being the most significant investment since the operator launched in 2008. Digicel says that the investment will deliver Fiji's largest 4G network as well as expanding the existing network to nationwide 3G coverage.

In making the announcement at the Grand Pacific Hotel, CEO Darren McLean stated "Customers are demanding more of our data network each month so we have made a big decision to enable all of our towers across the country with high speed 3G+ data capability. In addition to this we are also building the nation's largest 4G network in the main centres of Fiji. This means even higher wireless internet speeds of around 20 Mbps in the key population areas."

Digicel confirmed that the network upgrade is already well advanced with Lautoka now under full 3G+ coverage with towns being added each day. This phase of the upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of August.

Mr. McLean also stated that Digicel will introduce a new range of smartphones and smart devices with complimentary data for customers.

"The next phase of the Digicel story is our 4G expansion which is equally as exciting. We will announce details on the roll out of Fiji's largest 4G network over the coming weeks" McLean concluded.
