Malaysia to Get Location Based Tariff Plans

Alcatel and Malaysia's DiGi have signed an agreement to deploy an Intelligent Network on DiGi's GSM network. With this agreement, DiGi will be able to offer applications, combining voice, data and Internet services such as m-Commerce, Homezone and Mobile Virtual Private Network (MVPN). By means of Homezone, special charging rates for different locations can be offered, while MVPN foresees advanced voice and data services for corporate needs.

This solution will support up to two million prepaid subscribers and will allow DiGi to offer flexible tariff plans for different market segments. At the same time, it will cater as a platform for DiGi to launch new and enhanced mobile services.

DiGi's chief technical officer, Jon Eddy, commented, "Technology enablers play a vital role for us to deploy products and services with uncompromised quality. The impact of new generation technologies has presented many challenges for us to manage an increasingly complex environment. We have evaluated competitive products for the implementation of IN network and are happy to finalize this business partnership agreement with Alcatel, as their system is the most appropriate and flexible for the introduction of new DiGi products and services."'"
