Turkmenistan plans to launch its first communication satellite into orbit this November, National Space Agency chief Alladurdy Atayev said April 12.
The "Turkmen Alem 52,00 E" satellite would accelerate the development of the country's telecommunications infrastructure, Char Tarapdan Radio reported. The satellite could also be used to find natural resource deposits, the station reported.
The satellite's design, construction and launch were awarded to French contractor Thales Alenia Space by the Turkmen government in 2011. Turkmenistan founded its National Space Agency that year.
